WHY CERTAIN PEOPLE ATTRACT MOSQUITOES TO THEIR BODIES

mosquito

According to research, there is a reason why certain people attract mosquitoes to their bodies. This however varies depending on the environment and skin type, but generally mosquitoes are attracted to certain people because of certain factors. These include:

-Movement and heat

As you run around the volleyball court for instance, the mosquitoes sense your movement and head toward you. When you pant from exertion, the smell of carbon dioxide from your heavy breathing draws them closer.

-People with high concentration of steroids or cholesterol on their skin surface

The high concentration of cholesterol or steroids attracts mosquitoes to your skin, enabling them ‘hover around you’ seeking to suck your blood.

-Consumption of alcohol

The consumption of alcohol by the body to an extent can give a kind of odour to our skin which attracts mosquitoes.

Generally, humans differ in skin type, so it might be that the same mosquito that bit two people may be more attracted to one person than the other. Note that some people are mosquito magnets. A lot of people are allergic to mosquito saliva so when their skin flares up they may wrongly assume that they are getting bitten more than the next person which is actually not the case.
