2 Fuel Attendants in Court Over Alleged N4 million Fraud

Two fuel attendants, who allegedly stole 25,000 litres of diesel valued at N4 million, were on Thursday charged before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. Joseph Anjeluwa, 32, and Isaac Abu, 24, who reside at Ajefowobi Street and Adenekan Street, in Ogba area of Lagos respectively, are each facing a two count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the accused and others still at large, on June 25 diverted 25,000 litres of diesel belonging to their employer to an undisclosed location.

He said that the accused stole the diesel at Iyasuna Petrol Station, property of one Kayode Adebayo.

According to Nwangwu, the men claimed that the supplier had failed to supply the diesel.

“Abu, Anjeluwa and others still at large, had on June 25 diverted 25,000 litres of diesel supplied to Iyasuna petrol station located on Agidingbi Road.

“The accused stole the diesel belonging to Iyasuna Petrol Station, claiming the supplier failed to supply the product”,  the prosecutor said.

He said that the offences committed contravened Section 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 provides that any person who steals any property is guilty of a felony, and liable, if no other punishment is provided, to three years imprisonment.

Anjeluwa and Abu, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000, with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case to Oct. 14 for mention.
