Kanye West photographer fight
New father, Kanye West, will not face a felony trial for charges stemming from an attack on paparazzi. In July, Kanye West was walking through LAX, a favorite stake out spot for paps, who try to get pictures of celebrities as they arrive and leave, when a videographer followed him out to his car in the parking lot. When another photographer attempted to take his picture, West allegedly lunged at him and tried to take the camera away from him. The photographer was treated at a local hospital, but didn’t suffer any injuries.
The LA County District Attorney said that he will not file felony charges against West since no damage was done to the photographer’s camera and since he was not seriously injured or threatened by a weapon and because West has never been convicted of a felony. The DA will refer to the case to the office of the city attorney and West may have to face misdemeanor charges.
West, 36, who recently released his sixth studio album, Yeezus, has always had a troubled relationship with the press. In 2008, he was arrested for felony vandalism after he became involved in a physical altercation with a Paparazzi taking his picture while he was also walking through LAX.
Kanye West is not the only star to have had issues with the paparazzi in California. There is currently an anti Paparazzi law being proposed in the state legislature. Recently, both Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner testified before the State Assembly in Sacramento to the harassment that they and their children have suffered at the hands of paparazzi.
California already has an Anti Paparazzi law, this new one would mandate jail time and financial punishment for paparazzi that harass persons under 16 years of age. The new law, titled, SB 606, would also make it easier for celebrities to obtain restraining orders against paparazzi.
