15 Things To Do Once You Say “I Do”

1

If you have just said “I do” to that special person, then here is a list of the 15 things you need to do …

DAY 1

Scream in excitement: This is perfectly fine and normal especially if it was a surprise proposal, BUT don’t do this in front of the ‘Mr’.

Make phone calls: This is instinctive so you don’t need to be told BUT do not call everyone just yet you will regret this if at a later date you realise that it will be a small wedding because not inviting some of those people you called may not go down well. As well as your friends and parents, call your relatives, they will be disappointed if they have to hear it from someone whom they do not consider as ‘family’.

Get a manicure: This should be at the top of your ‘to do list’, everyone wants to see that perfect ring so it is important that you do not have chipped nails when you start showing off your ring.

Take photos of your ring: Now you have your well manicured nails, take as many photos as you can with a good camera, pick the first photo then BROADCAST it on Facebook, BB, Twitter, Instagram and any other social media platforms. A Lagos girl will tell you that this is the best part for her because she can show off to that girl who almost stole ‘him’ away and to her ex boyfriend so he would realize that leaving him paid off.

Most importantly, it is not easy to call everyone individually and as you know, news on social media spreads like wild fire, so this is a good method especially for those who plan on having a big wedding.

Perfect your proposal story: May I start by adding “after the first week, you will get bored of repeating the proposal story  but unfortunately you cannot avoid it”. We all add a little bit of you-know-what to our proposal story just to spice it up so it is important for you to actually sit down, make up your mind on what your story is if not you will end up telling different stories to different people. If you will be having a wedding blog/ website, then you may as well write down the story.

DAY 2 AND AFTER THE FIRST DAY EXCITEMENT

Get the ring resized and insured (if possible): A small or oversized ring may scar/ hurt you but most importantly, you may loose it, so insure your new possession and get it resized.

Make a pass at your guest list: This will give you an idea of the number of guests to expect, to invite and to inform about the engagement. Remember, most NIgerian mothers may have their own ideas regarding guest numbers.

Set a budget and start saving: Once you have an idea of the number of guests, the next step is to start saving.

Plan an Engagement Party: Will you be having an engagement party? Then start preparing for it

Be nicer to people: Well, this speaks for itself.

Buy bridal magazines and read blogs: The ideas you get from magazines and blogs should not be under estimated, it is also a good way find vendors and read reviews.

Make friends with brides to be: This will help you find like minded people to talk to and learn from, if you do not have the time to do this, then join a good wedding forum online.

Relax so that on your big day, your face and skin will be fresh. NB you are allowed to be a Diva, remember to get your way every time by saying “I’m the bride”.

Plan a night out with just ‘him’ so that pre wedding stress does not get to him, and remember to take time off bridal tasks so you can stay sane.

Lastly, Day dream about your big day.
