Amosun Suspends LG Boss, Others.

Ogun State Governor  Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday ordered the immediate suspension of the Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Mr. Dare Ogunde, all the councillors and other political appointees for undisclosed reasons.

Amosun said the officials would remain suspended for 90 days “in the first instance,” pending the outcome of a panel of inquiry which would submit its report within 14 days.

He constituted a four-man Panel of Inquiry to look into the affairs of the council.

The governor barred the suspended officials from entering the premises of the local government during the period of their suspension.

Our correspondent learnt that the governor’s action might not be unconnected with an alleged fraud recently uncovered at the council.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, in Abeokuta said the governor exercised his “powers under Sections 39 and 43 of the Ogun State Local Government Law”.

The statement said,  “Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, has, in exercise of his powers under Sections 39 and 43 of the Ogun State Local Government Law, approved the suspension of the Executive and Legislative arms of the Ijebu East Local Government Council for a period of 90 days in the first instance.

“During the period of suspension, the Head of the Local Government Administration will administer the Council, pending further directives and the outcome of the inquiry into the affairs of the local government as ordered by the Governor.

“The suspended chairman, his deputy, all councillors and political appointees have been directed to stay away from the council premises and the affairs of government during the period of suspension.”
