Beauty buys: Eight great mascaras

Makeup experts recommend replacing your mascara every three to six months, which is presumably why cosmetic companies keep coming out with new ones. Here are eight great mascaras to try.

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara, This long-lasting mascara has a super fat wand to curl and lift the lashes while it coats. Lasts all day without smudging. Best for: Easy everyday wear.

Estee Lauder Magnascopic Maximum Volume Mascara, This mascara has a triangular shaped brush to get colour right into the tiniest lashes. This clump-less formula has added moisturisers to hydrate and protect the lashes during wear. Best for: Everyday wear for those who crave volume.

Maybelline ‘The Falsies’ Flared Mascara, The latest release from ‘The Falsies’ range, the spoon-shaped wand end flares lashes out and separates them to give a sexy winged effect. Best for: Flirty evening eyes.

Australis Lash Lengths Extensions Mascara, This affordable little number attaches tiny fibres to the ends of each lash to add length and definition. It’s a lightweight formula that’s mess-free to remove. Best for: Short lashes that need the extra length.

Bobbi Brown Dual-ended Mascara, This product isn’t on shelves until next month but I thought I’d give you a heads-up. Bobbi Brown’s secret for building massive lashes is to use two different products, and so she combined her favourites into one tube. Designed to be layered, this dual-ended mascara features Bobbi Brown’s Everything Mascara for definition and their Extreme Lengthening Mascara for length. Best for: special occasions when you need va-voom lashes.

Carine Roitfeld for M.A.C Studio Fix Bold Black Lash Mascara, This mousse-like product adds volume and mega lift to lashes, giving you the extreme black lashes that the famous fashion editor favours. Best for: Lovers of dramatic charcoal black eye makeup.

L’Oreal Paris Double Extension beauty Tubes Mascara, This product is an oldie but a real goodie. The two-step process of primer and mascara creates little tubes around each lash to give maximum possible volume. It lasts all day and to remove you simply squeeze and gently pull off each individual tube. Best for: Thin and sparse lashes.

Innoxa Ultimate Lash Mascara, This simple, no-nonsense curling mascara is clump-free, water resistant and won’t smudge. Best for: Busy people on the run.
