River State Governor Rotimi Amaechi Monday rewarded NPL champions Dolphin and women’s cup holders Rivers Angels with cars and cash gifts.
The elated Governor said in 2010 after he gave cars and cash to 2010 WAFU Cup Sharks that any team in the state that win trophy will be accorded the same reception.
Each player of Dolphin got a Nissan Sunny car and 500,000 Naira, the coaches got a million Naira each with a car, while each management members receieved 500,000 Naira.
The Rivers Angels, who won the female FA Cup last season, each got a Ford car and 500,000 Naira.
Dolphin media officer China Acheru said the reward will spur Dolphin to go all out and push harder to retain their title this season.
“The Governor has fulfilled his promise,” he said.
“The Governor said he is aware that Dolphin are fourth on the table and tasked us to go all out and win as same gesture awaits us and any team in the state who won trophies.
“He said the players will receive the key to their cars Thursday if we beat Heartland on Wednesday, but if we fail to beat them, they have to wait for three weeks to get the cars keys. The cars are available at Government House.”
The reception was staged at Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt between 5pm and 7pm
