Sanitation Court Convicts 150 Offenders in Sokoto.

A mobile sanitation court in Sokoto on Saturday convicted 150 people for contravening the monthly environmental sanitation law in the State Capital.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the last Saturday of every month is observed as the sanitation day in the state.

NAN also reports that there was usually a restriction of vehicular and human movements between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. across the state on sanitation day.

The offenders were convicted by the mobile court Magistrate, Mr Shu’aibu Ahmed.

Of the 150 offenders, 120 were motorcyclists, while the remaining 30 were motorists.

Each of the 30 motorists was sentenced to three weeks imprisonment, with an option of N2,000 fine, while each of the motorcyclists was sentenced to one week in prison, with an option of a fine of N1,000.

The exercise was supervised by the Task Force on Sanitation, Beautification of Sokoto City and the Removal of Illegal Structures.

Its chairman, Sqn. Ldr. Aminu Bala (rtd), told NAN shortly after the exercise that: “We are happy with the improved cooperation of residents.

“We urge residents to sustain the cooperation, just as we in the committee and the mobile court will continue to work diligently to ensure a clean Sokoto.
