Singing Was Not My First Career Choice – Taylor Swift

Singing Was Not My First Career Choice - Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift spoke to Examiner.com and she surprised everyone by admitting that being a singer/songwriter was not her first career choice. It turns out that the award winning performer wanted to write books, not songs.

The 23 year-old entertainer talked about when she was separated from her friends and she was at a loose end. She explained that all her pals were in Pennsylvania and she had the sudden epiphany that she could write about her friends and put them in a book.

The plan evolved into Swift writing about characters who had her chum’s personalities and she would include them in her novel. She decided that her calling was to be a novelist and she fully intended to follow that career path.

She actually started writing various chapters of her novel. She would then send them back to her friends in Pennsylvania. Later she would write them into her book with different names or aliases but kept the details of each of their personalities.

She concluded that writing her book was a fun activity to fill the summer. But apparently Taylor Swift’s “summer job” and first career choice got left behind when her singing career took off. Although she believes that writing songs and books are not too dissimilar.

She spoke about writing songs versus writing books and she believes the two processes are very much alike. The way Taylor sees it you have to portray thoughts or feelings; characters or story via the words in either medium. She feels the familiar activity of writing, editing, re-editing, re-thinking and using your imagination make the two jobs very close in nature.

She also admitted that this was the reason that she loved poetry and songwriting so much.

Taylor also spoke of possibly returning to the acting arena. But only if she could find the right sort of script. She said that returning to the world of film would be lovely. She has already worked on quite a few projects as an actress.

She worked on two television shows, New Girl and C.S.I. as well as two films; the 2012 film The Lorax and the 2010 film Valentine’s Day. It has been rumoured that she will be in the 2014 filmThe Secret Service along with Lady Gaga, Michael Caine, David Beckham and Elton John.

When she spoke to E! News earlier in the month, she admitted that the idea of returning to acting was stuck in the back of her mind. She did stress that the script would have to be exceptional though. She had just been to the Toronto Film Festival premiere of the Paul Potts true story One Chance.

Taylor Swift had co-written the end credits song Sweeter Than Fiction with Jack Antonoff and performed the song. The singer was excited to be part of the film and she had never heard of Paul Potts before. She loved the story behind Potts; one day a cellphone employee and then suddenly he wins Britain’s Got Talent. She said that the story just “blew me away.”

Considering that Taylor Swift’s current career was not her first choice and that she originally wanted to be a novelist, it could have been a story she had written.
