Kanye West Returns To MTV VMA And Feuds with Obama

Kanye West Returns to MTV VMA and Feuds with Obama

Barrack Obama and Kanye West

Sunday, August 25 will mark the seventh return visit from Kanye West to the MTV Video Music Awards. The only other performer who has returned seven times is Madonna. West will take the stage to deliver his single “BLKKK SKKKN HEAD.” Since 2004, West has been invited back for memorable appearances. His most memorable didn’t include a singing act with Chaka Khan or Jamie Foxx. Instead, it includes his commentary and a response to both Taylor Swift and President Obama.

In 2009, West famously grabbed the mic from bashful country crooner Taylor Swift after she won the Best Female Video award. He had stunned the crowd and poor Swift was left looking like a deer in headlights. “Yo, Taylor, I’m’a let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,”  he had stated. The outspoken and random rapper was removed from the stage and kicked out of the venue. Later that evening, Beyonce earned the Video of the Year award. Sasha Fierce also earned huge kudos from fans when she invited Swift back on stage to complete her thank you shout-outs.

West is back on the invite list and returns to MTV VMA for his historic seventh visit to bust out tunes and hopefully keep the controversy to a minimum. Lada Gaga and several other acts are also slated to perform. Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the MTV VMAs with six nominations each. Bruno Mars is up for four awards. Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Pink and Thirty Seconds to Mars have three nominations each.

West has stated his instincts have guided him to “complete awesomeness at all times.” The rapper has a following; millions of people around the world enjoy his lyrical and rhyming, eye-brow raising tunes. One person, however, has not been impressed and it’s none other than President Obama. West won no pardon from the Prez after humiliating Swift at the 2009 VMA awards, resulting in Obama calling the controversial rapper a “talented jackass.”

During a concert West performed earlier this year, the rapper responded, albeit late, to Obama’s comment, saying, “I don’t give a f*** about what the President’s got to say.” It seems like the feud between the multi-millionaire rapper and the Commander in Chief is ongoing. The President, in a recent interview, referred to West and baby mama Kim Kardashian regarding their lifestyles:

The American dream involved some pretty basic stuff, a good job where you felt some security, a good education. People felt if they worked hard they could get there. I don’t think people went around saying to themselves, ‘I need to have a 10,000-square-foot house’. I think there has also been a shift in culture. We weren’t exposed to the things we didn’t have in the same way that kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success

No response has been forthcoming from the dynamic “K duo” yet. For now, West is focusing on returning to the VMA stage for round seven. Let’s hope he keeps to music and avoids interrupting Swift. Let’s also hope he doesn’t earn another negative comment from the President.
