Drake Says He Plans to Blow Up VMA Stage

Drake says he plans to blow up the VMA stage this Sunday during his performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. Music’s biggest stars have been making their ways in and out of the Barclays Center rehearsing and making other preparations for Sunday’s VMA show.

Drizzy, as he’s also known, is excited that he’ll get the chance to showcase songs from his latest album. In an interview that will run during “RapFix Live” on Saturday (Aug. 24) at 5:00 p.m. ET on allaccess.mtv.com, Drizzy will talk about what he’ll perform on Sunday night:

I get to do the new record, I’m doing ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ into ‘Started From the Bottom,’ so [it’s] really just an exciting performance to show the range and also show the diversity of music on the album.”

Drizzy then added:

It’s an incredible year to be a part of this with all of the KAWS design, it’s just like the best possible thing ever. We just rehearsed and everything sounded great.”

Young Money’s singer will be bringing a bit of a bang to the stage, along with his always entertaining displays of musical virtuosity. According to Drake:

We’re blowing the stage up, I got things going off, I had to test with the fire marshall and it’s gonna be good. I’ve been doing this for a while, pyro doesn’t scare me. You know I’m ready, if you’ve ever been on stage with Lil Wayne, he likes explosions and they’re loud you know, so I’m used to it.”

Everything seems to be going Drake’s way these days, and the August 25 VMAs will be yet another opportunity for him to showcase his hig-octane singing skills and to perhaps pick up a few more awards, the MTV redesigned Moonmen, for his trophy case.

Besides Drake’s third studio albumNothing was the Same, set to be released one month later on September 24, Drake is also nominated in the Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Direction categories for “Started.”

Talking about his stage show, Drake said:

I’m pretty much just trying to stay consistent. I released the artwork the other day, so you’ll see a bit of that in there. Just trying to set it off, September 24, that’s all I’m focused on, this performance and then just going home to put some final touches on the album with 40 and that’s it.”

Some of the other performers that will bring their considerable talents to the VMA stage will be Bruno Mars, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry, and Kanye West. This year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award honoree Justin Timberlake is scheduled to perform also. and as a special treat. There are strong indications that he will be joined by his former ‘NSYNC bandmates, which will be sure to electrify the audience.

Hopefully, if Drake really does plan to blow up the VMA stage, he’ll be courteous enough to wait until everyone else performs. I’m guessing that what will really happen is that his performance will include a pyrotechnic display of some sort, but that the stage will more than likely actually be left relatively intact.
