Popular transgender blogger, B.Scott has released a statement saying he’s suing Black Entertainment Television (BET) and Viacom for gender discrimination and forcefully making him put on male attires for 2013 BET awards red carpet segment.
In a lawsuit announced on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, Scott claimed that BET and Viacom hired him as the Style Stage Correspondent for the show where he wore a flowing black tunic and black pant but was later forced to put on men’s clothing. He was however replaced by biological female actress/singer Adrienne Bailon.
‘Scott’ of popular Love B.Scott blog went further to clarify himself by publishing an open letter on his blog titled, ‘What Really Happened To Me At The BET Awards’ thus:
‘It’s not just about the fact that BET forced me to pull my hair back, asked me to take off my makeup, made me change my clothes and prevented me from wearing a heel. It’s more so that from the mentality and environment created by BET made me feel less than and that something was wrong with who I am as a person.’
BET released a statement and apology via the Association Press stating that the network embraces ‘global diversity’ and seeks to maintain an ‘inclusive workforce’ and culture
However, Scott has taken that as ‘a half-hearted apology’ and demands the sum of $2.5million for damages on his reputation.
The 2013 BET Award show aired live at the Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles on June 30
