ABU Launches N50b Internet Fundraising

The Alumni Association of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has launched a N50 billion naira internet fundraising that provides easy access to all alumni to contribute to the development of the university. Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abuja on Tuesday, the President of ABU Alumni, Princess Henrietta Ingo Ogan, said with the launch of the internet fundraising, it was hoped that the association was now well focused to play its role, thereby being the greatest asset to the alma mater and the entire black race.
“Indeed, our alma mater, Ahmadu Bello University, has been established as a great symbol of unity in Nigeria in line with the legacies of its great founding father, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sarduna of Sokoto.
“This type of unity is particularly relevant and worthy of note, especially with the current national security challenges facing the country.
Therefore, as great alumni, we deem it as a patriotic duty to make useful contributions and sacrifices towards ensuring that our alma mater is restored to its pride of place as the foremost centre of learning and research in the West African sub-region,” Princess Ogan said.
She called on all alumni of the university and stakeholders to join hands together in giving back to the institution that had its best in character and learning over the past fifty years, noting that ABU gave its alumni the opportunity to attain their respective positions in life.
Princess Ogan urged the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Alumni to be proactive, innovative and creative by deploying their expertise and resources towards creating and sustaining a vibrant alumni association that would meet world standards, without losing its unique identity.
She further listed the achievements of the Alumni to include instituting a sustainable scholarship scheme with cash award to the best graduating student in each faculty; Alumni Presidential award to the overall best student of the university; Completion of the ICT Centre on the Kongo campus of the university; Renovation of the ABU Senior Staff Club; Sponsoring Iya-Abubakar Computer Center to compile a comprehensive Alumni Data Base among others.
