Sharon Ezeamaka Opens up: Nudity and Education

Afrocandy peculiarmagazine

To wrap up her reign as Teens Face of the Month, TEENY!  engaged Sharon Ezeamaka in an interview to find out what she’s doing now. From acting, working for Magazine and even singing, Sharon is spreading her tentacles everywhere.Growing up, did your parents give celebrity ‘Sharon’ any preferential treatments, any pecks?

They didn’t. At home, I was a regular kid and the big sister.

We know you have two sisters; was there any jealousy and fights as a result of your stardom?

No, my sisters are my best friends. We’ve always supported each other. Besides, they used to do commercials and stuff, so, we all kind of had our moments.

You once said that you wish people would stop seeing you as 10 year old Sharon, how difficult is it even today for your fans to see you as an adult?

It used to be very difficult, but I guess now, they are starting to understand that I had to grow up at some point. The older ones are still surprised though. People still see me and go “Oh my God! You’re so big now
You did a shoot recently which we describe as “sexy” – is that part of the plan to shed off the ‘baby’ Sharon notion?

Sexy? (LAUGHS) I’m many things, but I don’t think sexy is one of them. Not exactly, I was just doing a shoot that was very me. It wasn’t a plan or anything of that sort.
Still on shedding the child image, recently racy photos of Miley Cyrus – a fellow child star for V Magazine were released, what’s your take on it – Overboard or acceptable transition?

Acceptable transition. We’re the exact same age, would I do the same? Yes. She’s a beautiful young woman; people need to start accepting that.

You made a decision not to go to the University because your eyes are set on attending the New York Film Institute, are you still on that path? Are your parents beginning to put pressure on you?

When you put it like that, you make it sound like I’m anti-university. (LAUGHS) If there were schools here that offered film-making, I would have done that. But there aren’t. And I get no pressure at all from my parents. I’m a busy girl, it’s not like I’m just at home, chilling.

How long will you wait to achieve this?

Not long, I’m doing it soon.

Some people would say why not get a degree and then go to the film school, is that an insane idea?

Not an insane idea, just one that doesn’t work for me. Let’s be honest, going to school isn’t that much fun, unless you’re studying something you truly love. If you’re going to do it, you might as well study something that you love. I don’t see the point in going to school just so people won’t say you didn’t. It has to be more than that.

We gathered that you worked at FAB for a year, was there any reason for spending just a year at FAB?

No, no particular reason. That was one of the best years of my life though.

After a long hiatus, you debuted on the Africa Magic series ‘The Johnsons’. Is this your comeback move? Or is there something bigger in the pipelines?

It wasn’t a comeback move; I did it because when I saw the script, I liked it. When I make my comeback move, you’ll know. (SMILES)

If Sharon was not known for acting, what would she be famous for?

Directing. I’ve always loved it.

Rumors has it that you are dating Ifeanyi Dike, we think you guys actually make a cute couple. True or false to that rumour?

False. He’s one of my closest friends, that’s all.

Sharon – actress, rockstar and we know you began a romance with music a while back, how is that going?

I’ve always loved music, I’m not sure I want to do it professionally though. We’ll see.

Which would you choose – in front of the camera or behind the scenes?

Both! But right now, I’m really loving being behind the scenes.

TEENY!: The industry in 2000 in comparison to 2013

The growth has been impressive.

What or which director can make you go nude in a movie and why?

What? An amazing script. Which director? Quite a few. Why? Because I’m an actor, because when you agree to play a character, you have to be the character.

Which movie would you have wished to be the leading lady?

An already made movie: Titanic. A yet to be made movie: 50 Shades of Grey. I love the characters so much; I like how they both start out quiet and kind of unhappy and then end up experiencing the most epic kind of love ever.

A child-star you think would have made an amazing best friend?

Miley Cyrus… I love her.

What is the next move for Sharon in the creative industry?

There are a few things in the works; you’ll know when the time is right.
