Nicki Minaj made a statement this weekend. She didn’t exactly speak or even let her publicist write a statement regarding the wedding proposal she had received earlier this week; she’d rather let her finger do the talking. Nicki was seen leaving a restaurant in Los Angeles with Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes.
Most people didn’t fuss over her hair, clothing or even the unlikely pairing of the two friends, though, because everybody was busy looking at her huge diamond ring on her finger. Rumors immediately sprung up that she might actually have accepted the wedding proposal from DJ Khaled. Or, is Nicki Minaj just toying with us all and giving us the proverbial finger…with a diamond on it?
What has happened so far? Last week, DJ Khaled was featured on MTV News. He was there for an interview. However, he soon took over the segment and presented Nicki with a 10-karat, radiant-cut ring worth approximately $500,000. DJ Khaled then proceeded with this statement: ”Nicki Minaj, I’m at MTV. I love you. I like you. I want you. I want you to be mine. I’m here at MTV because it’s a worldwide network,” he said via video. “Only reason I’m not telling you this face to face is because I understand that you’re busy. Ima be honest with you, I wanna marry you.”
Most people were either surprised, looking for Ashton Kutcher and his “Punked” program, or just confused. Why would Khaled do this, and why now? Doesn’t he know that Minaj is already involved with somebody else? Does he really think that marriage should be the first thing on the list? Why not date first? His answer to these questions: “Nicki Minaj, will you marry me? We got the same symptoms, we both suffer from success. You out there touring, you’re out there hustling, you’re out there making music and you’re out there winning. And I understand.” It does seem, at this point in time, like Nicki Minaj might be giving us and DJ Khaled the proverbial finger… with a diamond on it.
That definitely sounds like solid ground to get married, right? At least Nicki hasn’t commented so far on this whole incident. She did retweet his video and the proposal but what is the significance of that? It all sounds it bit funny, doesn’t it? Reports are now saying that the ring she was wearing during her night out with Nene was not the same ring DJ Khaled proposed with. It was actually a ring she had worn several times before, again suggesting that she is not interested in Khaled’s wedding proposal. This might be due to the fact that she is still very much together with her longtime boyfriend, Safaree Samuels.
What do you think? Is this all just a ploy for attention from both sides? Or do you feel Khaled is mostly using Nicki Minaj? It does seem like an easy way to garner some much-needed media attention. DJ Khaled isn’t the first celebrity to go down this path and he won’t be the last. However, it seems like Nicki Minaj is just toying with us all and giving us the proverbial finger with a diamond on it. Lets wait and see what will happen next.
