A Must Have For Every Woman’s Work Wardrobe

A new week is her again and with it the end of the month draws. How has your work wardrobe been? Have you run out of ideas as to what to wear? Paring your clothes can be difficult if you don’t have the right pieces in your wardrobe. It’s important to have the right items to demonstrate your professionalism. Here are some key pieces every woman should have in her work wardrobe.

  •  A well-tailored white (button-down) blouse is the most classic top for pairing with separates. It is also the most important piece you should have. It can be worn under blazers, cardigans, wraps and vests and with any color of trousers/skirts.
  • Closed-toed black pumps/flats. This shares the top spot with the white shirt. These pumps will become the most functional part of your closet, it is what completes your professional look. It can give the most casual look a more serious feel. Make sure you get pumps that fit you well and is comfortable.
  • The perfect cut skirt/trouser for your body type. It is best to have black of each that you can pair with any shirt color/design. For those who have a narrow figure, you can opt for a low cut, narrow skirt (with ruffles). If you have a triangle shape—meaning your shoulders are the broadest part of your body—a skirt that falls straight and has a flare will compliment you most. For those with curves, pencil skirts were made just for you! A-line skirts work well for those with wider hips as well.
  • A professional handbag. Get one that has a closure. A handbag that is open—which is pretty much just a tote bag—looks messy and unpolished. Also get one that is big enough to carry all your work load i.e laptop, notepad e.t.c.
  • A simple, clean cardigan and/or a neutral colored wrap sweater that can easily be paired with trousers, skirts and over dresses creates a feminine addition that takes away the edge of a hard blazer on days you need to keep warm but don’t want to be too stuffy in the office.
  • An adaptable suit jacket/blazer that is well tailored. Choose something that is not too heavy and not too light. You want a jacket that you can wear no matter the weather condition.
  • A dress that can easily trasition from day to evening. A sophisticated wrap dress or a sleek sweater dress (utilizing the same rules as the best skirt for your body type) would do. You can wear this on days or for events that are not so strict.
  • Simple accessories to finish up your look like a pearl stud earrings and a white pearl neck lace. Other accessories like a slim belt, scarfs, colored shoes can be thrown in when the need arises.

You should note that It’s not how much you accumulate into your work wear that makes it versatile, it’s the choices you make. With the pieces above, it would be easy for you to swap your look without any one knowing its the same trouser or shirt you wore last week or so.
