A clip of a dog apparently “crying” at the grave of his owner’s grandmother has gone viral.
Wolf-cross Wiley appears to sob and shudder over the gravestone, as a hand reaches out to stroke and reassure him “we miss her too”.
The video was posted to YouTube by user sarahvarley13 on April 14 and had clocked up nearly half a million views at the time of press.
“I can tell you that he has never done that before and hasn’t done it since. I may be anthropomorphosizing his actions but its how I’m choosing to deal with loss,” the user wrote.
While that may well be the case, it’s not the first time a canine has appeared visibly moved by the death of a human.
Take the case of Ciccio, a 12-year-old German Shepherd who continues to visit the church where his owner’s funeral was held last year.
Father Donato Panna said of the grieving hound’s visits: “He’s there every time I celebrate Mass and is very well behaved – he doesn’t make a sound, I’ve not heard one bark from him in all the time he has been coming in.
