Poly workers threaten strike over unpaid salary scale peculiarmagazine

Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to implement the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Scale 15, failure which members of the association would embark on a national strike.

The SSANIP said in a statement by its National Public Relations Officer, Adebanjo Ogunsipe, a copy of which was made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday that the 21-day ultimatum was part of the resolutions of the association during its 40th General Executive Council meeting held at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, between March 19 and 22, 2013.

“SSANIP observes that the 2010 re-negotiated agreement it had with the Federal Government is due for review and urged the Federal Government to constitute a team that will negotiate with it without further delay,” the association said.

It also called on the Federal Government to establish a national commission for polytechnics in the country without further delay, noting that the establishment of such a commission would further aid the growth of polytechnic education in Nigeria.

The association expressed worry over the delay in the constitution of the Governing Councils of the various Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology.

It also expressed concern over what it called the “second class treatment” being meted out to polytechnic graduates by employers in both public and private sectors, particularly banks and telecommunication companies.

The Association therefore urged the Federal Government to warn such organisations to stop their continued discrimination against holders of the Higher National Diploma.
