Popular human rights activities and Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana, has predicted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo will go to jail if his eight-year tenure as Nigeria’s leader is investigated.
“If President Hosni Mubarak could go to jail and other corrupt leaders in Asia and North Africa, it is a pointer that former President Obasanjo will go to jail,” he stressed.
Falana – who spoke on Tuesday at an event organised by a civil society coalition in commemoration of June 12, 1993, presidential election, in Osun State – said Obasanjo became far richer when he ended his presidential tenure than when he got into office, hence there is need to probe him.
He also disclosed that it was illegal for retired military rulers such as Gen Yakabu Gowon, Gen Ibrahim Babangida, and Gen Abubakar Abdulsalami, to attend the Council of State meetings.
