Chinua Achebe for Garden City Literary Festival 2011

Chinua Achebe

Literary icon, Chinua Achebe, will be the keynote speaker at the fourth Garden City Literary Festival themed ‘Literature and Politics’ holding from September 12 to 17 at Atlantic Hall, Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The literary icon, who will deliver his address via satellite, will be joined by Ghanian writer, Ama Atta Aiddo, and American Jesse Jackson at the event organised by the Rainbow Book Club and the Rivers State government.

Like previous editions, the 2011 festival will feature activities including writers’ workshops, interactive sessions with authors, performances, special events for children, and a book fair.

A release from the organisers disclosed that though the workshop is free, participants have to register. It enjoined interested writers to submit their entries to the festival organisers or register online at www.gardencityfestival.com.

The aspiring writers will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and interact with other writers from within and outside Nigeria at the workshop.

Similarly, the six-day book fair is open to booksellers, bookshops, publishers, artists and gift shops who should visit www.gardencityfestival.com for registration and participation details.

The University of Port Harcourt, British Council, Association of Nigerian Authors, and PEN International are supporting the 2011 Garden City Literary Festival.
