Beauty Questions and Answers

Look Good Always

Question: Can I camouflage facial defects with a foundation? I have a very broad nose. How can I make it look narrower?

Answer: You can camouflage the short comings on your facial features by using the foundation clearly. A nose that is too wide can be made to look narrower by using a light colour foundation down the centre of the nose in the straight line. The darker colour foundation is applied on the sides of the nose. Take care to blend it well.

Question: What are the ground rules of selecting a foundation?

Answer: Foundation gives a smooth texture to the skin and gives the effect of an evenly toned complexion. A foundation should look natural and not mask like. The colour of the foundation should be nearest to the skin colour. Sometimes two tints may be blended to lighten or shade an area. Never select your foundation by applying it onto the back of the hand because the skin here is always of a different colour than that of your face. The best way to test it is to apply it on the side of your cheek, just above the jawbone. To apply the foundation, dot it over the face and neck and blend with the help of your fingertips. Make use of damp sponge for blending to ensure that there are no patches.

Question: I have very dark lips although I have never smoked. How can I lighten the colour of my lips?

Answer: To lighten the colour of dark lips, apply a mixture of honey and lime juice over the lips for a few days.

For soft lips, apply a mixture of glycerine, lime juice and rose water mixed in equal quantities.

Smear fresh cream over discoloured lips and leave it on to dry. Use regularly at least month to bring back a healthy colour to the lips.

For dull and dark lips, apply the juice of coriander leaves, before going to bed, for 15 days.

Question: How Often Should I Exfoliate and Use a Mask?

I am a 32 year old woman with normal to oily skin. I do experience a few breakouts from time to time. I wear foundation everyday and cleanse and moisturize my skin 2 times a day.I would like to know how often should I masque and exfoliate my face? Also, how often should I get a facial and what type?

Answer:

First, what you’re doing currently is great, but does your moisturizer have SPF in it? If it doesn’t, add that to your daily regimen. As for using a mask and exfoliator, I recommend exfoliating 2 times a week, and then using a weekly mask. The exfoliating is important, as you’re getting the dead layer of skin off, letting healthy fresh skin shine.

There are many different kind of masks, and some are to be applied daily, and some 2 to 3 times per week, so check the back of your tube and see what it says. Make sure you leave a day between your exfoliator and masks to give your skin a break.

As for facials, typically I let the technician decide what facial my skin needs. I don’t like to pick one when making the appointment, as he or she might think my skin needs something completely different. Because they are all typically 45 minutes or so, it doesn’t really matter when making the appointment. Just tell them you’d like to consult with your technician to decide on a facial together.

Just remember, verify what’s actually included, and what you’ll be paying extra for. I’d recommend a facial once a month, but see what they say when they actually look at your skin.

Question: Facial Toner – Is it Necessary? Do I need to use a facial toner in my daily skin care regime?

Answer:

You’ve asked one of the most debated questions in skin care. Do you need to use a facial toner, or can you skip it?

Personally, I try to never skip a toner in my daily skin care regime. I love the way my skin feels after a toner, and I really can see the difference on the cotton pad after I apply it. But is it necessary? Probably not. I stand on the side that says yes, you should use a toner to encourage healthy skin.

There are many professionals who disagree with me however; stating it really is an unnecessary step in your skin care regime unless you have oily skin or just love using a toner.

Question: How Do I Avoid Eyeshadow Crease When I Have Oily Eyelids

I have normal to dry skin everywhere except for my eyelids, which are oily. Every time I wear eye shadow, I wind up with a crease right in the middle. Is there anything I can do to keep my eyelids oil free and my eye shadow looking fresh?

Answer:

Oily eyelids are a problem for many people, no matter their skin type. There are two simple steps that you might not be doing that can help, as well as a great product that will work wonders.First, if you apply eye cream, don’t apply it to your eye lids. Eye creams work to plump up fine lines and wrinkles. If you apply it to your eye lids, you can be left with puffy eyelids on top of adding to your oily lid problem. Simply apply it underneath and on the sides of your eyes. Second, cover your entire eye lid, top to bottom with your face powder. This will give you a dry base to work with, and you’ll find your eye shadow blends in much easier as well.

Finally, if you’ve tried these steps and you’re still having creasing issues, try an eye shadow primer. Eyeshadow primers work wonders when it comes to keeping your eye makeup in place for an entire day. Simply put a dab on your eyelid and blend it in gently with your finger. Wait for a few seconds for it to dry, and then you are ready for your eye-shadow. It works amazingly well.
